Historical Security Council

The Historical Security Council challenges delegates to come up with thoughtful and original solutions to historical conflicts by reenacting historically relevant crises and events. Delegates relive, influence, and potentially alter the outcome of key historical events.

My name’s Alexander Zhou, and it is my utmost honor to serve as your president. At my first history class, my teacher told me that history is a mirror in which allows us to understand the soar and decline of times. Indeed, analyzing how people responded to crises and events in the past allows us to formulate better responses as we continue to tackle our modern-day challenges. The Historical Security Council, hence, provides such platform that allows us to revisit historical incidents – but this time, we will be the ones in charge of making the decisions. The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 is one of the crises that not only brought the world to the brink of nuclear war but also demonstrated the critical importance of diplomacy and communication. During this tense 13-day standoff, the United States and the Soviet Union faced off over the installation of nuclear missiles in Cuba. The resolution of this crisis, through intense negotiations and a mutual understanding of the catastrophic consequences of nuclear conflict, highlighted the necessity of dialogue and compromise in international relations. See you in November!

Hi delegates! I’m Sophia Fang, a junior from SHSID, and I’m honored to serve as your Deputy President for SHASMUN XII in the Historic Security Council, where I will be writing the chair report on Addressing the Bosnian War. This is my fourth year participating in MUN, and I have competed in and won Best Delegate awards at both THIMUN and UNA-USA conferences, including SHAMUN 2021, MUNUC 2023, and HMUNC 2024. In addition to the Chinese circuit, I have also gained experience in American competitions, winning Outstanding Delegate at Harvard MUN in Boston in January 2024. MUN has been a transformative experience for me, allowing me to develop my skills in public speaking, diplomacy, and leadership. I am eager to share that experience with you all through facilitating meaningful debates on global issues and ensuring a productive and inclusive environment for all delegates. I fully accept the responsibilities and obligations of being a student officer and am committed to making SHASMUN XII a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved!

Deputy President

Greetings Delegates! My name is Sophie, and I am currently a freshman at SASPD. It’s my pleasure to serve as your deputy president for HSC (Historical Security Council) at SHASMUN XII. This would be my 6th conference, marking the start of my third year participating in the MUN program. For me, the best part of MUN is the experience of stepping out of my comfort zone to attempt something new, such as giving impromptu speeches and cooperating with people from different schools and backgrounds. I hope you will be able to try so as well. For this conference, I would focus on the Prague Spring, an intriguing topic that tests your knowledge of economics, politics, and history. I look forward to seeing how you choose to tackle this issue. See you in November!
